Additional break bulk cargo capacity at the East Terminal provides the Port with the opportunity to expand its container terminal capacity at the West Terminal. The proposed improvements will nearly triple the Port’s container handling and storage capacity adding 903 FEUs of storage including additional support plugs for refrigerated containers. This provides needed capacity to expand the ports growing Mexico and Central American container markets. The container terminal capacity improvements at the West Terminal include the following improvements:
- Third Container Handling Crane
- 60% Increase in Container Storage
- Additional Racks for Refrigerated Containers
- Additional Chassis Parking
- Rail Serviced Container Freight Station (CFS)
- Container Interchange Gate Expansion and Automation
